The Proper Way to Social Network
Everybody already knows what a social network is, but very little people actually know how to use it properly.
For those in the dark, some of the most popular social networks include:
- Facebook
- Twitter
- Digg
- LinkedIn
Wrong Ways to Use Social Network
- Sign up for an account, friend request everybody in site, login in once a month to check status.
- Sign up for account, friend everybody, constantly spam your own material and ignore everything else.
While most social networks nowadays are made to try and become the next Facebook or Myspace, the early trailblazers created a network so those with similar interest could have a place to share the interesting things they came across.
Write Ways to Use Social Network
- 90/10 rule: The more work you do for others, the better outcome for you. In other words, 90% of the times you should help out others (i.e vote, comments, and share other people’s work). The remaining 10% will create better results than somebody who does a 10/90 rule.
- Be an active participate: While there are people that understand the 90/10 rule, these same people login to their account only so often, do all the work at once, and then won’t log back on for another couple of weeks or so. That does not work.
In social networking, the big picture is to enhance your name and persona in the internet world. Even if you are only sharing your own stuff 10% of the time, the things you do in the other 90% of the time will pay off in loyalty and you can still show that you know what you are talking about.
Effectively Using Your 10%
- Relate: Don’t just throw your stuff randomly out there. If there is some hot topic, then create an article related to that and post it. As long as you can get people to your site, we have achieved our goal.
- Create landing pages: Many people will share coupon codes or other affiliate links. Although you may get people to click on your link, the actual conversion will be better if you link to a review or article about the product or code on your actual site. Not only is our affiliate link still out there, now we have also gotten people to come to our site.
Bottom Line: The amount of social networks and people using them are drastically increasing by the day. Obviously this can tarnishes the quality of everybody’s experience, and makes it harder to successfully network than before. Remember to stay active, releveant, and non-greedy.
